DESCRIPTION:The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will host an Artist Reception celebrating the work of Pamela Shockey\, entitled "Light on the Western Range\," at the Lakeside Contemporary Art Gallery\, located in the lobby of the RFA Lakeside Theater\, 2493 Main Street in Rangeley\, on Friday\, July 10th\, 2026\, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. Come on out to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments & concessions/ a beer/wine cash bar. The Exhibit continues through August 4th\, 2026. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday\, 10 am to 2 pm.Artist Statement: I find endless inspiration in all that nature has to offer in Maine. My paintings record passages in time while examining how sunlight illuminates the landscape. Maine's varied scenery is brought into focus by intensifying natural colors and using bold brushstrokes in my work. This diverse landscape begs to be captured and highlights Maine's undeniable beauty. I paint mostly plein air but will select certain paintings and scale them up in my studio at home. I also enjoy painting still life subjects such as flowers\, sea glass or any other objects found on my daily excursions. My intention is to provoke fond memories of the viewer's past where the landscape or still life connects them to a time and place they cherish. Artist Bio Pamela Shockey has a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Florida Atlantic University. She also took courses at Massachusetts College of Art and Savannah College of Art and Design. She moved to North Yarmouth in 2018\; however\, she grew up visiting her grandparents in Maine every year since birth. Those travels repeatedly brought her to Cape Elizabeth\, the surrounding area and Bethel. This established a strong connection to the coast as well as the mountains. She is an oil painter who focuses on subject matter ranging from Maine's inland scenery to its rocky shoreline\, along with still life capturing found objects collected during her outdoor adventures.
