Monitoring Thousands of Maine’s Native Wildlife: How Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Does It and How You Can Get Involved Presenter: Alexander Fish, Endangered & Threatened Species Coordinator, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is responsible for over 15,000 wildlife species, including amphibians, birds, inland fish, invertebrates, mammals, and reptiles. The wildlife diversity section is primarily responsible for surveying, monitoring, and tracking population trends of these species. I will provide an overview of the section and our work program(s), the species we work with, highlighting a sample of recently completed projects, on-going projects, and provide examples for ways you can get involved in our work. Whether you are interested in native brook trout, bumble bees and butterflies in your backyard, or are distracted by migrating warbles while turkey hunting, this presentation will help foster a greater appreciation for the wildlife all around us, and highlight simple ways you can contribute.
