White Nose Pete Fly fishing Festival Story Time and Author Visit

Tuesday, June 9, 2026 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Join Maine Children’s Author, Cathy Ballou Mealey, author of Make More S’mores, the Sloth & Squirrel book series, and When a Tree Grows, as she reads her newest title “Fly Rod was First: Cornelia Crosby’s Adventures in Angling” for the children of Rangeley! Along with the reading will be a story activity and a Q & A session- we will have a box to summit questions in advance at The Rangeley Public Library.

“When Cornelia Crosby was born in 1854, there seemed to be as many fish in Maine as there were stars in the sky. As she grew up she got hooked on fly fishing, traveling from one camp to the next and catching as many as two hundred fish in a day! When Cornelia wasn't fishing, she was writing about fishing. Adventure stories by "Fly Rod Crosby" graced the pages of newspapers across the country. Fly Rod Crosby was a tireless ambassador for Maine, dedicating her life to the enjoyment and conservation of its streams, lakes, and forests.”

The book is appropriate for all ages but might be most interesting for ages 6-11. We encourage you to bring your little ones in to learn about one of Maine’s historic figures, then go down the street to The Rangeley Inn and Tavern enjoy activities at Rangeley’s Annual White Nose Pete Flyfishing Festival. Fun for all ages!
